These days smudge sticks are made of many materials including lavender or wormwood. Traditionally, however, Native Americans burn white sage smudge to purify the mind, body and spirit before, & during prayer or meditation, purifying the atmosphere and dispersing negativity. White sage is not a true sage (Salvia) at all, but is, in fact, sagebrush (Artemisia).
It can be used to purify the home, office and car. Carry a small amount in a pocket or medicine pouch to insure personal and spiritual safety.
